Ben Cohen has been involved in capital defense work since 1997. He is currently Of Counsel to The Capital Appeals Project in Louisiana. He has witnessed a wide variety of second-class justice handling appeals and habeas work in Louisiana. He has been part of exonerations, reversals, and landmark litigation concerning the influence of race on the administration of the criminal justice system in Louisiana. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Cohen was part of the first group of lawyers to file habeas petitions challenging the widespread detention of individuals without any process of law.
